Last ride before winter

This doesn't qualify as an epic ride. I just got my BRP and this was my first ride on it and unfortunately my last for the season (read freaking cold and snowy Canada).

Sitting in my cubicle staring at the beige walls knowing its 18 degrees outside and the weather is about to turn. One of those this can't be life moments. Well screw this, time to call in sick and have one last offroad days.

A friend of mine John also ditched for the day and met me at my place. We headed off on some asphalt and joined up with the K&P trail near Ompah. The K&P is an old railroad that has been torn up and now acts a recreational trial. The boring of it is that it is flat and predictable. The fun of it is that you can fly along at speed standing on your pegs letting your suspension do what it does.

After about an hour of this we ended up in the town of Calabogie where we stopped for some lunch on a patio in the sun. Sitting in the sun with a coldy and some hot wings with the sun beating down on a Thursday afternoon while playing hookey from work, damn what a great idea!

Some twisties on highway 511 brought to a great dirt road (called new road but you wouldn't want to bring a car down this road) that twisted and climbed to a hydro line that heads off to Packenham. The hydro line is about a 30-60 minute ride. A few water crossings, lots of twists and hills and a few fast spots makes this a must do for anyone around the Ottawa area.

We jumped off the hydro line at the California road and took the best rollercoaster dirt road I have been on for a while. The hills crown and enable your bike to leave the ground on numerous occasions, a true classic. I believe the road was called Darling and it leads into Clayton Lake Village.

Well as the sun was falling we headed our separate ways. Hmm I wonder if this is enough gas to make it 40 km to the next town, well almost, 1 km short to be exact. A tip of the bike on the shoulder managed to get enough from the other side of tank for things to fire up and get me to a gas station. A picture perfect red glowing sunset brought me to my doorstep. Bob Marley in the garage and a cold pint in the hot tub with a sky of stars overhead ended a day that a "cubicle day" cannot compare with.

2008 had so many great riding days, after this ride I now put my bike away and dream of where to go next year, hmmm maybe Moab in the spring...

Nice. We are still doing small local rides but it will be really cold soon. Got to enjoy it while you can

I took the XR down to Blockbuster tonight and froze...34 degrees outside.

End...Are you crazy! I'll ride till spring.......may not be long rides but I HAVE to get out and ride once in a while. Spring...Where are you!
