dunlop 606

Post  mamacone on Thu Mar 26, 2009 4:26 pm

I have a dunlop 606 on the rear and would guess it has about 800 miles on it, will need replaced in the next 500 miles. If I run it any longer not going to be much of Knobby. I run about 80% dirt. Not sure I will buy another one.

This is what I have ordered, mate runs a bike hire biz and averages 8000KM. Mate went round the side of a clay bank and said the grip was amazing

Mate has the Mitas on his DR650 (rear tyre) with 3000KM of road and river bed riding and it looks like new, obviously not got the torque of the XR I wouldn't think

I also use a Mitas C02 on the rear. Its a really aggressive knobby that is road legal. I ride mainly trails but need to use tarmac to get between the lanes. It lasts a lot longer than any rear knobbly should on the XR and I find that the front is toast before it. Max 1000 miles

Does anyone else find that they wear out the front before the rear?? Tarmac miles are a bare minimum and ridden at a slowish speed.

Always the opposite to you, front tyres last and last, wish the rear did the same.

I have just had a look at the link you posted.
I am using Mitas C02 rear and EF-06 Front see link below
http://www.demonmx.co.uk/contents/en-uk/d658.html.

The Ef06 is an aggressive knobbly and the conclusion I have come to is that Pig's heavy front end is the cause of the high wear rate.
I did ride it with the original IRC front for a while and that looked like it would last forever but was far from been the best in mud.

Yes the pig is front heavy as I noticed when unhooking it from the bike frame it was delivered on, only dropt couple of inches onto the concrete floor, but a loud thud was heard (unwanted action the drop) . The pirreli nobblie I have on the front shows little wear compared to the back in the 200 k's ive done.

If had the money the front shocks would be the first thing I would change, lighter upside down folks. Think standard folks spoil the look of the bike, like something off a Yamaha AG farm bike Would have to do some research though as do not want to spoil the balance of the bike which seems good.

I don't have the money or the time to be changing knobblie's all the time so will go for the E-07 and let some air for off trail. You could give the E-07 a whirl.

Your link not working for me

This one should http://www.demonmx.co.uk/contents/en-uk/d658.html#p5944
I think I see why you are going through front tyers with the EF-06 , seen the same thing happen on me mates kx250 with the same design of tyre. With the knobs being so far set apart from one another the laws of physics dictate each individual knob will have more applied pressure than knobs closer together.
Think the tyre more suited to sand or grass me mate said, some of his knobs actually ripped off and many about to, cracks and splits.
Possible solution - go for a tyre with closer together knobs, with such aggressive tyres you look to be doing mainly off road aggressive riding, if you do a mix of riding the E-07 the best overall choice in my humble opinion
