New to the XR650!!!

Post  Rendell on Tue Apr 26, 2016 1:28 am

Hello All,
I am new here. I have recently just traded my 1997 Sportster 1200 for a 2001 XR650R. It may not have been fair trade all around, as the XR is not in great shape, but I happy about the trade.

No more will I be told I ride a girls bike....

Anyways, I need to fix it up a bit. I am not in a position to buy brand new, or anything right now. But I would like to make some connections with any of you guys that have some stock spare parts like muffler, exhaust, plastics.

Welcome to the forums, eBay is your best bet for spares....should find exhaust without to much problem but side panel will be scratched unless you buy new as not many people will part out a new side panel...I wouldn't lol.... razz

You see, that's what that "thing" (it's called a kickstarter) does for your ego! Bump
Now off you go picking up all kinda floozies impressed with your one developed manly calve BRP smile
Enjoy the bike too, familiarity breeds hooliganism in this case!

Well in this case I have some murdercyclen down already, prior having a cr125 and a crf250r. However I am pretty sure I have a crank gear to replace after trying to kick it over like a knuckle dragger.....

EBay haD a choice or two. Do any of you think there would be a chance for old exhaust system on here if I poke around the right people?

brp exhaust

Post  temporary kiwi on Sat Apr 30, 2016 7:21 am

hi, im not sure if it would be worth your while but i have a couple of race exhausts for the brp available, i gaurantee it will make a substantial hp gain over what you have now, just may cost a bit for freight to usa

Thanks temp kiwi, but I already know that will be out of my budget. I did find someone relatively local with stock exhaust and a few extras.

the std headers

Post  temporary kiwi on Sun May 01, 2016 2:32 am

honda for some reason chose to equip the brp with californian (smog reducing) legal headers on all brp's, if you look at them they have built in restricted headers, they reduce in size by around 3 pipe sizes just after they exit the port, this is very poor for power , even bad for the mtr as it causes exhaust gas to re-enter the combustion chamber.
this is one of the worst std exhausts ive ever seen on a motorcycle, get rid of it asap

Yip, agree with Kiwi (which is a lying git because he's anything but temporary BRP smile ).
XRsOnly headers (or any other) which are bigger diameter are sometimes said to reduce the low-down torque a little, however I've not found this to be the case at all! More power almost everywhere, not a lil' less right at the bottom.... and who rides there anyway hmm?
Get them bru, you'll not be sorry Bump
