Kakadu 2 Dayer

Post  Zoro on Mon Jun 23, 2014 5:32 am

Basic trip out to Litchfield National Park the back way via Cox Pen Rd, camped at Sandy Creek Falls, gate still closed to Reynolds River so had to back track then slabbed it to Batchelor next morning. Pie and a coke there, fuelled up Adelaide River and had lunch at Pine Creek in the Kakadu National Park.
After a couple of beers (2) and a feed I rode towards Gunlom Falls, just before the turn off there is an unmarked dirt track (which I was told about prior to the trip) and headed down there.  Woke up next morning bright and early, rode to Cooinda and fuelled up, then back tracked to Old Jim Jim Rd to home.
You'll notice in the pics I don't have my bash plate on, its in getting a couple of repairs and I was too lazy to go into town to get it.
Not many pics from the first night as I got in a little late and forgot to take the phone/ camera with me when I walked to Sandy Creek falls- have attached a link below that shows them just as you would see it..

All loaded up, ready to go..

Setup camp here on the second night..

Had a swim/ bath…

Gotta watch out for the crocs in here..

Bit further to go

Getting along quite nicely down Old Jim Jim Rd

Couple of creek crossings, this one the deepest. Gotta watch the biting handbags in here too.

Had an off yesterday which I'll attribute to "Target Fixation"....
Came out of it pretty lightly, broken LH rear indicator, busted camelback (think it saved me) and damaged pride. Don’t remember picking the bike up or the broken pieces of indicator. All I remember is looking at what I was going to hit instead of where I should be going and then getting back on the bike and riding again…really strange. It wasn’t until I got to the Bark Hut Inn I noticed the Camel Back had burst, looked in my tank bag and found the pieces of indicator lense???WTF?? Was only 5klms from the Arnhem Hwy too… always the way.
Got home and jumped in the tub and found a cut on my forehead and bruising around my eye. Couple of beers and some Panadeine Forte and woke up this morning with a sore body. Nothing I won’t get over.
All said and done, I’d do it again tomorrow.
Think I used up a “Get out of jail free pass” though. Something to remember for next time, I must be running short of those…
(FYI- this is the primary area for the shooting of the film "Crocodile Dundee" all those years ago)

Due to the lack of photos I have provided some links to the various places here..

Sounds like you had a great time, I used to be relieved to end a ride without a spill as you get older and you work for yourself you really cannot afford to hurt yourself hence I stick to tarmac now  BRP smile

No, not funny at all, they're BIG buggers - bigger than the one's here, and apparently more aggressive/hungry too.
However, there they're always sortof alone. Not here, as our handbags are normally escorted by 2-ton aggressive submarine buses also called Hippo - which, after the Mosquito, account for the most casualties on this continent  Shocked

Don't worry bout the spiders/ snakes, they're more worried about you than you are of them. Whereas a croc will come after you if it can eyeball you.
I did see a brown snake ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_brown_snake ) headed across the road on this trip, he was ok doing his own thing. I could have run him over and broke his back but he wasn't hurting me and was only trying to cross the road. He would come after me if I got close enough and he felt threatened but there's no way I was stopping. Had he have bitten me I would be dead inside the hr, especially on my own out where I was riding. I was at least 3 hrs from a hospital, easier to leave them be then muck around with them.
There has been cases of tyre fitters here repairing punctures and getting venom in them from feeling around the inside of the tyre and coming across a fang from a venomous snake, apparently some have died from this.
