How much will the stock engine take?

Post  igofast on Tue Jan 01, 2013 4:06 am

So Iwant to turbo my XR650R, I plan on running an effective compression ration of 13.5:1 which puts me at about 5 psi of boost. I wanted to make sure the stock internals will take this much boost, any help would be great. Thanks, and if you have any negative comments or want to say "this cant be done", please keep your comments to yourself.

If you don't like negative comments I suggest you try another forum...negative comments can be a good thing... what's the point only hearing the good points of a project without knowing the bad points ? listen up
try google for more info.....

That site doesnt really have any info about the turbo build itself, and you know theres a difference between negativity and constructive criticism.

I found this forum yesterday after posting this, the guy is taking the most complicated and lengthy approach you can, going with injection is the way to go but I dont know if I agree with the way he's built the exhaust and placement of the turbo, the stock exhaust is perfect for a turbo setup, but everything else looks spot on to me, and from what he says, the stock engine should be able to take the power from my mere 5 psi.

There is a guy who posted video on the utube - turbocharged xr 650 r and the engine desintegrate quite fast , but he sayd that if you not revving it all the time and are little bit gentle with it it can last lot longer .

I think that hondas maximum recomended/safe compression ratio is 12:1 if i am not mistaking , everything higher than that adds too much stress to the internals and significantly shortens the engines life , this can be minimized by using uprated aftermarket parts ( bearings , rod , and piston the most important ) .
