swing arm bolt correct tightening

I have just ordered the swing arm tool from ebay and pulled the swing arm bolt out and greased it up and put it back in, now I can't work out the correct method of adjusting the swing arm bolt, I appear to have to much bolt head sticking out on the kick start side.....HELP
