Dual Star Mirrors

Post  4play on Fri Nov 28, 2008 7:43 pm

I put a pair on & they work pretty well. They way they mount I believe they will survive trail riding & the occaisional unplanned dirt nap while remaining legal.

I've seen these on other bikes in pics. Do your arms get in the way of seeing in the mirror? they look like they are tucked in pretty tight.

I have these on my bike and I think they can work but you need to get the mounting locations just right. I may try the mounts for these that are shown on the 4strokesonly link given below and see if they are an improvement over stock Dual Star.

These hand guard and mirror combination look like a great idea also. I intend to contact these guys and see if they will work on the XR. I also have a RTT damper I need to work around as well.

I have the Dual Stars on the XR and the KLX. They work, but they take some getting use to. You look under your arm, not over your shoulder like higher mirrors. If you're 'wide of girth' you might have some problems seeing with them. Like DF said, you really have to tweak and get the best position that works for you. I ended up reversing the mirror on the swivel mount to get the angle I needed.

If you ride mostly trails and don't need heavy traffic mirrors, they work pretty well.

On the XRR I added a small, metal riser to clear the new switch unit I put on the handlebars.

My little piggy (600R) came with a left-hand Dual Star-like mirror (see image). That was the only mirror on the bike, and I was surprised at how well the dang thing worked!

As mentioned, precise positioning is key. One still might be looking at the partial sides of your jacket, though. Smile

I'd say these things are a great compliment to a REAL mirror, or two, if riding the slab with cage drivers for prolonged periods of time.

Of course, I'm a hypocrite, as I don't have any on my 650R, yet! I could certainly use some, though. Six sets of eyes are better than two.

Did you try those perch mirror posts for the DS mirrors?

No I have not but I do think they are worth a try. I have been way to busy just trying to keep my business going, I hope to have a little more time to work on the XR this fall. I will try and post up when I have an opinion.
