Hi,

This is my first post and I could do with some help from you guys.

Iv just rebuilt my top end with a new piston kit and had my cylinder replated, it all went back together fine and starts first time, my problem is it's got a loud tapping noise from the top end now, iv checked the valve clearance twice and decompressor cable free play and it's all ok, iv got a sneaky suspicion it's got something to do with the decompression cam on the camshaft?

Any ideas or knowledge on this would be much ...

Hello all.

Am new to the site, and apologies that our first meeting is with a bike problem. My poor pig is stuck in France in a barn.

Did a trip from London, got as far as the south of France, bike ran perfectly all the way. Checked oil regularly, all was well.

Started the bike on the 3rd day and engine was really clacking hard from the head.

Checked the valves, were way out, inlet had about 4-6mm clearance! Adjusted everything to spec, changed oil and filter (no particles anywhere), ...

I adjusted my valves today and the right side exhaust valve was so tight, it took 3-4 full revolutions of the adjuster screw-out to get the feeler gauge in. The other exhaust valve was right on the money and the intakes' were slightly loose, but almost not worth adjusting.

Bike history: I bought it from it's second owner, who admitedly never adjusted the valves, but claimed to only have put 200-300 miles on the bike. No knowledge of first owner's use. Don't know the mileage. Bike is ...

Hi all

The guy Im chatting to regarding making my front end plusher is a retired engineer who used to do the Yamaha team mx bikes as well as pvt coms here in SA

I mentioned drilling the valves and he said he does not think its a good idea he said something about running a 5w oil and shimming or something to make the first 150mm plusher? He did my rear suspention years ago and it was fantastic.

Does this sound ok or does one need to drill those holes? Im 70kg and enjoy a plusher ride must say ...

It did burp up some coolant while we were checking maps and while it got a little too hot sitting still. I figure that's why folks put fans on em. I started just killing it when the maps came out.

When I tried to start it again, it took a awhile and it ran very rough. I finally got it back to the house. Pulled the tank and the spark plug. The plug wwas ...

Before I venture into a new clutch, I thought I'd ask for some advice first.

Shall I stay stock, or are there some aftermarket clutches worth examining? The bike is an '02R. She's a dual ...
