Where's Waldo?

Post  AtomicXRer on Wed Feb 18, 2009 9:34 pm

On Monday Feb 16th I decided to take the BRP out on a discovery tour in my quest to find the NM ghost town Waldo. The DS trip took me to some areas worth another investigation: SW Santa Fe public lands area, La Bajada, old town of Cerrillos,
Waldo and Waldo canyon. It turned out to be a scout trip for a DS loop ride I wish to propose as a group ride in the near future.

I have a few pics, but as you shall see, there camera lens mechanism froze up at the most opportune time.

I started here at the public lands area SW of the SF Airport (yes, SF does have a small airport):

The roads in this are look like this, and there are areas to explore:

There also was a nice hill climb to try:

From the hill you get a view of mountains behind SF in the background:

After a little exploring, I decided to head south on the powerline raod to La Bajada hill. One can really haul if you want, but I just took it easy as I took the ride in with a grin:

At the top of La Bajada hill there are plenty of photo ops. This is
the Santa Fe river way down below:

A look further south towards Albuquerque (Abq):

Some more pics of my pig (a good photo op):

And finally road to head down off La Bajada on this “road”:

At the bottom, you look back up at this formation:

After getting to the bottom, I then cross over I-25 and head east toward the Madrid mountains on Red Rock Road into Waldo canyon area and the old town of Cerrillos:

This is looking south toward Sandia Mountain in Abq off of Red Rock Rd:

More high desert scenery as I approach Cerrillos and Waldo Canyon:

This is where my camera starts acting up…dust in the lens mechanism…not sure? I made it to the old town of Cerrillos….here’s a pic of the rocks as I leave the town:

I then saw the Southwest Chief Amtrak Train pulling coming from Lamy and headed toward Abq. It was a race to get this pic as I was handling the camera while trying to keep up at 45 mph. Here’s my proof:

Now it was off to finally see Waldo ghost town. I did, but have no proof….I dropped the camera and messed it up during the train pic. I am not ambidextourous, and like a clutz Idropped the camera.

So, WHERE IS WALDO? I have no proof it exists. I will have to make another trip. But it DOES exist: http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/nm/waldo.html

For you NM riders, anyone wanting to go find Waldo with me on the next ride?

Well almost, there are alot of reservations (called pueblos here) that the indians have turned into casinos. angry...the reservations have some of the best lands, but they protect them as sovereign nations.

I see that you're from Lyon, France....I was there just last fall. Beautiful country....I also visted Paris, Marseilles, and Hyeres for some suntanning.
